Musical number day

One of my oldest ideas is Musical Number Day, which is a sort of holiday. The idea is that every citizen would be obliged (by convention, not law) to participate in a pseudo-spontaneous public theatrical performance once a year.

For example: picture a busy sidewalk on a random city street. Suddenly, four or five people, who did not appear to be walking together, start singing and dancing a tightly choreographed number, like something from "Grease" or "Hair." They do one number, then they're done. They walk off and resume their everyday business.

Broadway musicals are a popular source of material for Musical Number Day, but are not mandatory. In fact, original works are encouraged.
