NEW YORK —Courtney's got us watching a cute new summer season show on TNT called "The Closer", starring Kyra Sedgwick. At first glance, it looks like another CSI rip-off. Kyra plays an interrogation specialist/deputy chief who often rubs her fellow cops the wrong way. The show is primarily a whodunit featuring one or more interrogation scenes, the last of which is the show's climax. This structure allows it to get away with a minimum of location shoots (keeping the budget low). There are no chases or shootouts. Every show begins with the (usually gruesome) discovery of a murder victim (you never see the crime), but after that it's all about the investigation and the characters' personality conflicts, with a little bit of Deputy Chief Brenda Johnson's love life thrown in. Another plus is that it's shown in HD. Give it a watch.
